VISITING MALAHIDE CASTLE & GARDENS
Malahide Castle is one of the highlights to any visit to Dublin. Located by the seaside village of Malahide, the castle is steeped in history, playing a central role in Medieval Irish history. The Castle has just under gone a multi million euro redevelopment and renovation making it the Jewel in the Crown of Irish Tourism. There are a number of tours available including the castle tour itself and a tour of the Secret Walled gardens. The park is open to the public, including the sylvan walks, children’s playground, tennis, pitch and putt, golf, and football. The re-vitalised visitor experience including the renovated castle, the secret garden and new retail and dining centres opened in Autumn 2012. The refurbished castle features a botanical interpretive centre, a museum, an engaging castle tour, exhibition of Irish and local history, Secret Walled gardens and an expansive West Lawns walk as well as local craft and souvenir shops, which offers a truly memorable and unique experience.
The Castle, along with its subsidiary attractions, is operated by Fingal County Council, who also oversee the Castle Demesne. The main castle, museum, interpretive centre and walled gardens can be visited for a fee. The castle has an eating facility, and adjacent is a craft shop. The castle’s best-known rooms are the Oak Room, and the Great Hall, which displays Talbot family history.
