English Language & Activity Summer Camp

Dear Visitor

Warm greetings from Dublin and Active Language Learning and we hope you are keeping well.

For the first time in 33 years we have taken the unfortunate decision to postpone our junior summer school for this year only. This decision is based on many reasons of a perfect storm. Active Language Learning has consistently delivered quality young leaner programmes each July and August which was in no small part down to our excellent homestay provision and teachers. As you are aware the combination of Brexit, Covid, and the situation in the Ukraine has escalated the lack of provision of homestay providers and teaching staff to unprecedented negative levels. For these reasons our usual quality and care would be overstressed. Active Language Learning has a reputation for ensuring that every possible aspect of all our courses are managed at the highest levels at all times. If at any stage, like the present time, this is compromised beyond our control we will not run any course at half pace to the detriment of our cherished partners and students.

We sincerely apologise to all students hoping to come to our junior programme this year but we look forward to 2023 where every effort will be made to ensure our usual standards are back in place.

Our adult courses will run as usual but early accommodation requests would be advisable on the strength of the above concerns.

If you wish to discuss any of the above regarding our courses please feel free to contact the School Director at info@all.ie and we will be happy to help where possible.

COURSE CONTENT

Students are assessed on their level of English on their first day and placed in a class according to their level. In class students will improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Each afternoon a great variety of sporting activities, computers and arts & crafts are available as well as an extensive range of cultural and social activities which bring together local and foreign students in an international atmosphere.

Students follow a course book that has been specially selected to be appropriate to the interests of teenage learners. The rotation of 3 teachers means students are exposed to a variety of teaching styles while enjoying the continuity a course book provides. Lessons cover all the skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) as well as reviewing and practising grammar and extending vocabulary. All of this is done using the Communicative Language Teaching methodology to ensure students have the chance to use their English in oral and written communication tasks.

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT

Such as discos, ceilis, barbecues, karaoke, quiz night, concert etc. are available three times a week.

IRISH INTEGRATION PROGRAMME

Irish integration programme is very much part of the junior summer school ethos. Local Irish (English speaking) teenagers aged 12 to 16 come to study French, German or Spanish which ensures a truly international course. All nationalities take part together in all activities, excursions and evening programmes where English is the common language at all times.
